Run for the Roses!

Derby weekend is a HUGE deal all over the state of Kentucky. Races, parties, festivals, air shows, the largest fireworks display in the country, all happen right here in the few weeks leading up to the First Saturday in May. Celebrities and horse racing enthusiast travel from around the world to spend the day experiencing life as a true Southerner. Whether you are spending the weekend at Churchill Downs or Keeneland, planning your outfit is one of the most important parts of the entire experience. The weather in Kentucky is so unpredictable, especially in May (it HAS snowed on Derby before, ugh!) but that doesn’t stop the outfits from stealing the spotlight. The race is the fastest 2 minutes in sports, you’re in that dress and hat ALL DAY, so it should be fabulous! Dressing for comfort and weather isn’t really a thing Derby Weekend…it’s all about the beautiful dresses, the cutest shoes and the BIGGEST hats/fascinators! Oaks Day (the day before Derby) is PINK for breast cancer. It’s amazing to see so many people incorporate Pink in to their outfit. Derby Day…anything goes...beautiful hats with feathers to ones shaped like horses or the Twin Spires.
While it’s always friendly and beautiful here, something just feels different in Kentucky during the first week of May. Knowing that the entire world is watching our beautiful Horse Country and getting to experience the life we live here is a pretty cool feeling.
